Ah…. the weekend, a time to relax, have fun and temporarily forget the stress of being an adult. Many people’s idea of a fun weekend is hanging out with friends at the bar/club, going to the arcade or to the beach, or watching movies at the Cinemas. If you’re like most people, after having so much fun and basking in the euphoria of the awesome weekend you had, reality sets in and you realize how much your pockets are bleeding.

The good news is you no longer have to feel regret after every weekend, it also doesn’t mean you have to lock yourself up in the house either. In other words, you can eat your cake and still have it, all it takes is a little planning and you can still have a great weekend, with the bulk of your funds comfortably sitting in your Crowdyvest savings plan.

We’re about to share some fun and cost-effective ways to have a fantastic weekend, try them and thank us later.

  • Instead of hanging out at the bar, invite your friends over to your house. Drinks at the bars are sold at between 3-5 times more than the market price. Imagine how much you would be saving on drinks alone. All you need for a house party is a Bluetooth speaker, download a DJ Mix on your phone, and you’re guaranteed to have as much fun as you do at a bar or club.
  • Instead of going to the Cinema, try Netflix and Chill. A cinema date on a weekend would cost you about 10 to 15 thousand Naira. Alternatively, you could save a lot of money by watching a movie at home, all you need is some microwave popcorn and a drink. The other wonderful advantage is that you get to pause, rewind and fast forward the movie, which you can’t do in an actual cinema.
  • Instead of going to the Arcade, host a game night. Hanging out with friends in an arcade on a weekend could cost you between 30-50 thousand naira, depending on your number. We suggest you host a games night instead. There are a lot of fun games you could play at home with your friends and most of them are free or don’t cost much. Games like cards, Jenga, Ludo or even charades never get old. Don’t forget video games too.
  • Instead of going to a restaurant, try cooking a new recipe.  We know you see all those food vlogs and keep telling yourself that you’re going to try them one day. Well, what better day to try a new recipe than on a weekend? Hopefully, it comes out right and you get to enjoy a fancy meal in the comfort of your home while saving a ton of money.

Other fun activities you can do are binge-watch your favourite series, go for a walk or run and take long naps.

Well, there you have it, you’re on your way to having a “No Spend Weekend”. Do you have any more ideas to have fun on a budget, feel free to let us know in the comments.
